Below you can see the map of the Treatise created by compiling the citations from each article. The data is presented in two ways: first, as charts; second, as a customizable 'reading list'.
Processing each publication in the PhilPapers list of publications on Hume's philosophy of personal identity yields data on how frequently each textual location in the Treatise is cited. This data can serve as a guide to newcomers. The more frequently a location is cited, the more important for understanding Hume's philosophy of personal identity. The data is provided below in two forms, visually as charts (you can download the chart data below them), and in a customizable list form.
The x-axis of each charts are textual locations in the Treatise. The first pair of charts uses Chapters for specifying locations while the second pair uses Paragraphs. The axis starts with the Treatise's Introduction, followed by the three Books, then the Abstract and the Appendix.
The height of each bar represents the number of citations that have been made to a given textual location in the literature as a whole. If you hover your mouse over a bar it will tell you the text location (i.e. the chapter or paragraph) and the exact count of citations that were made in the literature to that location. You can also use the Title menu above each set of charts to see the citations from a single publication. You'll find two charts for each search type—one chart which represents the cites extracted from the literature under Strict search conditions, the other under Aggressive search conditions. For more information on the difference between Strict and Aggressive search conditions, see Project Overview. You'll also note that nearly every text location has a number followed by decimals—again, see the Project Overview for more information on how citations credit is assigned to text locations.
